www.robnunnphoto.com dSLR's are great, but lenses are expensive, even second-hand ones. If you buy a M42 lens mount adapter on eBay, you've then got access to the thousands of much cheaper (and older) M42 Lenses. M42 Glass is manual focus, and you have tomove the aperture ring by hand too, but if you put your Canon dSLR into Aperture Priority Mode, it will meter the scene and set your shutter-speed accordingly. By adding extension tubes we can take macro or close up photographs, and the equivalent EF lenses are incredibly expensive, but we can get similair shots at a fraction of the price. So buy an M42 lens mount adapter, then trawl the flea-markets, charity shops and car-boot sales for M42 glass and extension tubes. Thanks for watching, Rob.

It's by far one of the most sharpest lenses we've come across (even sharper than my Kowa 8Z) but it does seems to suffer from chromatic abberation a bit. Sample footage from my home-made 35mm Depth of Field Adapter for my Sony HVR-A1P HD camera. Basically, it's a box that has the mounting ring from an old Canon AE-1 camera that accepts Canon FD lenses. Inside the box is a spindle-motor from an old Sony Discman hooked up to a 1.5v AA battery holder and switch. On the spindle is a frosted CD from spindle bulk-pack of CDs (the clear or frosted ones you get on the top and bottom of the stack). A 37mm macro lens screwed on the front of the HVR-A1 allows the camera to focus onto the rotating CD through a hole in the back of the box, and some extruded-angle and 'T' aluminium bars hold the box and camera together. The result here is a little darker than the original thanks to the compression process used by YouTube, but you can see the effect. Music created using Magix Music Maker. Five things to consider when wanting to get sharp digiscoping photos: 1. Get good focus - use the optical viewfinder of a DSLR or macro autofocus of a compact camera. 2. Understand your camera settings - use ISO and Aperture setting to get photos with low noise (low ISO) and with a wide open aperture (smallest f number in Aperture Priority mode) to get the fastest shutter speed possible for those conditions. 3. Use a remote release of countdown timer - anything that lets you reduce the shake of the camera will improve the sharpness of the images taken with the digiscoping setup 4. Use a stable platform - carbonfibre tripods are light and dampen vibrations effectively. If you are using a tripod, make sure you use a telescope balance rail as adding the weight to the back of the telescope tends to pull the whole setup out of balance and introduce/accentuate camera shake. Even better than a tripod is a Bean Bag. These are very easy to make and - filled with beans, rice or corn - make excellent vibration-dampening camera/telescope supports. 5. Use good quality optics - photographers have been saying this for decades: buy good quality lenses first, and then think about upgrading your camera body. Applied to digiscoping, the quality of the image coming through your scope will largely determine the quality of the image you are able to get out of your digiscoping setup. Handheld test footage of Canon T2i shooting @ 30fps / F8 through an Asahi SMC Takumar 1:2/55 lens I found at a thrift shop. Watch in 720p. Info: I bought an old Asahi Pentax SP 1000 camera this Takumar lens came on. Cam was broken so I explained my interest in the lens, and they gave it to me for .99 (instead of the .99 sticker price). This Takumar lens has an M42 (Pentax screw) mount so I had to hold the lens onto the body of my T2i because I don't have the adaptor yet. Argh. Sorry for the shaky footage. Wind + handheld cam + lens held in place = nightmare. This lens has a manual aperture switch (essential for use with EOS cam); seems to switch modes easily, but only when it's attached to the Pentax camera. Without the cam attached it, the switch won't budge (by design), so I put it on the Pentax cam, switched it to manual, unscrewed it, and will tape it to manual mode for use with my T2i. Workaround? Hmm, I tried manually holding in the pin on the back of the lens and switching the aperture switch. No deal, won't budge. Will mess with it and try to get it to switch without the old camera so I don't have to keep the Pentax body around just in case the lens accidentally gets switched to Auto mode. Review: Major upgrade from the stock glass for, what, total after investment in a ring adaptor? This lens is really nice. Super touchy as focus goes, so I recommend getting really good at using the x 10 zoom focus Live mode on your T2i or related cam. Gotta say that my ...

It seems that most people start out with the tactical shooter evolving to the rapid fire shortly after that The one thing that really helps is the z-finder version 2; from Zacuto, a must have for DSLR cameras I am getting so much better at focusing with it now even on moving objects The Z-Finder V2 is Zacutos Optical Viewfinder that allows DSLR cameras to have the correct form factor for video, I think that it offers 3x focusable magnification, an eyecup preventing extraneous light leakage, and is custom fit for 76mm diag. LCD screens are really hard to see in the BRIGHT sunlight especially in countries like brazil, SOUTH AMERICA. So for Brazilians this accessory is a must HAVE. lens specs below, read before you ask please. Comparing 5 lenses to see difference in focal length, aperture size and depth of field. All on a canon 7D at 720/60fps iso 125, shutter speed 60, generally speaking the aperture was wide open, except where noted. All shot from same tripod at same spot within minutes of each other. 7:00pm July 27, 2011 Asheville, NC about 2 hours before sunset, right after a rain. I wasn't planning on sharing this, so I am muttering to myself, but found it useful so I decided to share it. Mostly this is around the recommendation that you get prime lenses to shoot video. I think it depends on if you will be dealing with low light or not. It is hard to focus sometimes with the 7D, especially in low light or if subject is not up in foreground. Audio is from camera. What do you think of the various bokeh? No surprises the primes let in more light, especially the faster ones. The one surprise was the prime 135 had a bit narrower view angle than the zoom at 135. not sure why that would be. If all lenses need to be multiplied by 1.6 to get the focal length as the camera reads it, than we are looking at 27mm-400mm of focal length compared. You need an M42 adaptor and youre away! Theres dust specks on the lens here i didint see till later, Settings were ISO 400 shutter speed around 1/60 and a lowish aperture something like F2 to f4. 1920 x1080 @24 fps. It was nearly night but not fully dark. Leicester UK Uppingham Rd A47. This short clip was 196 MB unaltered. SD card was sandisk extreme HD video 30MB/S, a very good card and not too expensive so long as you get an 8GB one. To play your video files get VLC media player- its free.

The Canon T2i is a Video DSLR camera & the Panasonic is a Pro Consumer Camera; two very different pricing. The Canon T2i can be achieve at about less then half the cost for amazing professional results. A brief description of the Canon T2i is that its a body attached to a lens. The lens gives off a very nice looking Depth Of Field. In my eyes the Canon T2i over powers the HVX200a in cost because HVX200a DOF costs way more & needs a lens adapter for that look. Although both cameras are great its just depending on your budget of work. As of other specs in these cameras they vary from advantages to disadvantages. This a test comparison between the NIkon 35mm f1.4 AI lens and the Nikon 50mm f1.8D lens. The camera and tripod position are exactly the same place, only the lens are swapped to see the difference in coverage and lighting quality. I use a Canon HV30 HDV Camcorder and a Twoneil DoF Adapter I personally find the 35mm f1.4 does make a difference especially in low light conditions such as the indoors shoot here with just normal energy saving flourescent lights. I will post more example, next time maybe outdoor shoots and such . . . .

I still don't have the adapter to attach this, so I'm still holding it with my hand. This test is a low-light test. I just wanted to get a look at true 2x Anamorphic. (last upload was actually around 1.5x) I also wanted anyone intersted to see it perform in low light. As well as getting a look at the absence of lens flares....I found that it needs to be a much stronger light source. Also note that this footage has not be color corrected or processed. One final note, this was shot on a D90 with a 55-200 DX lens. With a Sankor 16C handheld infront of other lens. F4.0 mostly, ISO 200...

www.dslrfilmnoob.com I always seem to get questions asking if I think a focal length will "work" well for filming. This is sort of a subjective question. I have no idea what is a good focal length to you or what focal length will make you happy on your next film project. So instead of me using hard to define terms like "kind of wide" or "zoomed in" I've put together this video to demonstrate focal lengths on a corp sensor camera. Starting with 11mm and working my way up to 85mm. The focal lengths listed are the actual focal lengths listed on the lenses I used, not the crop sensor multiplier number. The camera was placed 10 feet from the subject matter, I find that is about the max distance your camera will be able to achieve in most standard size houses or living spaces. This also gives you an easy reference distance when thinking about each of these focal lengths. Sometimes I have to take a brake from the fun stuff and do something useful like this. So I hope this helps everyone.
